Das Schöne Ende dieser Welt
Synopsis
German chemist Michael Brandt arrives in Western Australia under the guise of a private investor. His true mission: to establish a secret subsidiary for a powerful German chemical corporation. The plant is designed to produce highly toxic pesticides—substances already banned across Europe and the United States. Yet in the developing world, financed by the World Bank and driven by profit, these poisons promise lucrative returns.
Brandt is persuaded by the stewardess Elaine and her brother, environmentalist Graig, to undermine the controversial activity against the wishes of his ex-wife Ursula.
The film was shot in Germany and Western Australia.
Das Schöne Ende dieser Welt was produced by Pentagramma (Renate Erler) in co-production with ZDF, ORF-Vienna, SRG-Zurich and Books & Films-Australia.
Distribution: ImBild. World Sales: Atlas International.
Video Distribution: Starlight Film, Bochum.
The screenplay for the film was published by Mirapuri Verlag.
Das Schöne Ende dieser Welt was awarded Telefilm of the Month at Oscar d'Italis in 1985 and was nominated for the environmental prize Prince Rainier of Monaco at the Monte Carlo TV-Festival.
